ADDRESSING THE MIGRANT CRISIS

Michael is the only candidate for State Representative who will address the Massachusetts Migrant Crisis. Michael knows that our towns can’t afford it. Our hospitals and healthcare system can’t afford it. Our EMS can’t afford it. Our schools can’t afford it. And families who rely on state services can’t afford it. Michael’s plan focuses on halting the endless funding stream supporting the influx of migrants, ensuring that Massachusetts residents—especially veterans, seniors, and students—are prioritized and their needs are met first.

ENSURING TRANSPARENCY

As a small business owner, Michael understands the importance of accountability and maintaining a balanced budget. While citizens are held to high standards, he sees a lack of transparency and accountability within the Legislature. As State Representative, Michael is committed to restoring public trust in state government by advocating for reforms that prioritize transparency and responsible governance.

  • End the legislative exemption from the open meeting law

  • End the legislative exemption from the open records law

  • End the legislative exemption from the fair procurement law

  • Require the budget to be published online 24 hours before the final vote is taken

  • Require public hearing on all tax bills

FIGHTING FOR AFFORDABILITY

Michael emphasizes the critical connection between fiscal responsibility and addressing the state's affordability crisis. He believes that legislators have a duty to ensure taxpayer money is spent wisely, especially in the face of rising living costs. Chaisson highlights the migrant crisis as a significant financial burden, with the state projected to spend $1 billion in taxpayer money next year. While he is empathetic to those in need, he argues that such spending is unsustainable and that addressing immigration issues is essential to alleviating the broader affordability crisis and ensuring fiscal responsibility.

INCREASING SCHOOL FUNDING

Michael Chaisson points to the "millionaires' tax" passed two years ago, which was intended to boost funding for schools. However, as a member of the Foxboro Advisory Board, he has seen firsthand that not enough of this money is making its way back to local towns. Chaisson is committed to advocating for the return of these valuable funds from the state, ensuring that they are directed towards supporting and improving local schools.

SUPPORTING HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES

Michael Chaisson acknowledges the widespread concern over the housing crisis and agrees on the need for more housing. However, he advocates for a thoughtful approach, opposing unfunded state mandates that force towns to zone and build apartment complexes. As a contractor familiar with zoning laws, Chaisson suggests alternatives, such as making it easier for homeowners to add in-law units or build accessory buildings on their properties. He believes this would help seniors and empty nesters find affordable housing, increasing home inventory and driving down prices.

PROMOTING PUBLIC SAFETY

Michael Chaisson is a strong advocate for fully funding police, fire, and EMS services, recognizing the essential role these first responders play in making communities safe and vibrant. He emphasizes that his campaign is focused on enhancing the well-being of local towns by ensuring they receive a fair share of tax dollars. By doing so, he believes these funds can be directed towards adequately supporting police, fire, and EMS services, which are crucial to maintaining the quality of life in the community.
